Monuments, parks and modern design in Radovljica

 

Take a rest in the shade of trees and find out about the creativity of local and foreign artists.

 

Seek out landscaped areas with views of the surrounding hills. The parks in Radol'ca contain contemporary art works by local and foreign artists. During a walk through Radovljica and the surrounding smaller villages, you will see numerous monuments to important people that hailed from Radovljica and diverse reminders of the past.

 

Villas with wonderful secessionist and historic elements can be found beside the main road towards Lesce, whilst some close to the old town centre are the work of the Slovenian architect Ivan Vurnik.

 

Alongside Jože Plečnik and Maks Fabian, Ivan Vurnik is considered a pioneer of modern Slovenian architecture and the founder of urbanist architecture in Slovenia. A number of his works can be seen in his birth town of Radovljica.

Unique wrought iron lights in Radovljica's park

Radovljica is adorned by modern wrought ironwork produced by Slovenian designers and blacksmiths from Kropa.

In front of Radovljica's church stands a bronze statue of Cene Avguštin. Behind the statue is an exhibition, based on his work, that details the development of the town.
