The Municipality of Radovljica is part of the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism. This commits the destination to undergo a re-assessment of its operations in the field of tourism, as well as those of the municipality in the area of sustainability, every three years. Radovljica has once again received the Silver Label.
The municipality of Radovljica has long been striving for sustainable development. Activities in the field of sustainability are written into development plans, and the Radovljica Public Institute for Tourism and Culture is a member of the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism. The Silver Label has been awarded again this year, confirming that we, together with local providers and the municipality, are striving for tourism that is more friendly to the local environment and nature.
The destination received the maximum number of points (10) in the area of Culture and Tradition, while the lowest score according to the criteria was awarded in the area of Tourism Business Operations and Communication (5.0).
The official assessor wrote the following:
The destination of Radovljica demonstrated sustainable operations during the re-assessment, which earned it the Silver Slovenia Green Label, thus repeating the success of the previous assessment and retaining the same colour label. The destination achieved a high score in the Culture and Tradition category, which testifies to a strategic and development-oriented approach to culture and heritage, which is complemented by innovative experiences, such as the latest ‘Blacksmith Elf Along the Kropa Nail-makers’ Trail’. The destination exceptionally nurtures its gastronomic heritage as part of Taste Radol’ca, which it presented as an example of good practice at one of the professional tourism events in Slovenia on the very day of the field visit. It is also pleased with the improved result in the first, most tourism-related category, Destination Management, where it improved from 7.8 to 8.4. The understanding and clear communication of tourism statistics and monitoring of visitor satisfaction are particularly commendable.
As in the last assessment, the lowest rated category is ’Tourism Business Operations & Communication’. The destination has shown in the field that it cooperates constructively and well with providers, which the providers themselves also confirmed. The rating in this section is therefore primarily a reflection of the lack of specific activities specifically for the tourism sector, which are precisely required by the criteria in the standard.
The conceptual design of the original culinary souvenir ‘Eat the chocolate and plant the wrapper’, the Code of Cooperation between Students and Catering Professionals, systematic and regular publication of tourist visits to the destination, and the Guidelines for Tourist Guides and Agencies were highlighted as examples of good practice.
In 2025, we continued implementing numerous sustainability activities in Radovljica, both within the programs of the public institution Tourism and Culture Radovljica and across various areas of municipal operations. The results achieved show that we can be satisfied with the tasks carried out.
