Begunje, the cradle of national folk music

26.08.2018 10:00

On a free guided tour of Begunje, get to know the village that gave Slovenia, and the world, national folk music.

A musically inspired walk through Begunje na Gorenjskem, the birth place of the Avsenik brothers. You will find out that the village is not only the home of Avsenik but also to other artistes and lovers of national folk music.

Visit the place that marked the youth of Slavko Avsenik and inspired his musical creations. Today Begunje still lives and breathes national folk music – the village is home to Sašo Avsenik, Niki Legat, Marjan Korošec and numerous other excellent musicians. You will find out who the members are of the mysterious village ensemble 'Divji prašiči' (Wild Boars), what 'fucane' and 'poh' are, and which tunes are particular favourites among locals.

This free guided tour of Begunje begins in front of the Begunje Tourist Information Centre on Sunday 26th August at 10am. The tour will last 1.5 hours.
