Visit Radol'ca for Summer Events and Experiences!

Are you still undecided about where to spend your summer holidays or searching for ideas for places to go on day trips? Look no further, you're certain to have a great time in Radol'ca!

There's always something happening in Radol'ca. Over 100 events will take place over the course of this summer's event programme, including free guided tours, while guests who stay in partner accommodation for a minimum of three nights receive a free benefits card. In addition to an overview of the main events this summer, below you can read more information that will come in handy if you are coming on holiday or on a day trip to Radol'ca.
 

PREMIERE SWING FESTIVAL

Following on from the Radol'ca Beer Festival, which delighted the crowds in Radovljica on the first weekend of June, from 17th and 19th June the old town centre of Radovljica will come to life with the rhythm of swing. The Shake the Change International Swing Festival will be held for the first time in Radovljica. For three days lovers of swing will have the opportunity to refine their dance steps in Radovljica Manor then will perform in Linhart Square in the evening. The dancers will be accompanied by live music and on Friday and Saturday evening Taste Radol'ca street food will also be available.

 

 

ORLEKI CONCERT AND THE RADOL'CA 10K RUN

The school holidays in Radovljica kick off with an event in the park. To mark the jubilee 10th Radol'ca Run, which traditionally takes place on the eve of Statehood Day in front of the linden tree of independence, additional entertainment will take place in the Radovljica park. From 2pm onwards there will be entertainment for children followed by the start of the children's run at 4pm and the adult's run at 6.30pm. The celebrations to mark Statehood Day will take place half an hour earlier prior to the start of the adult run at the linden tree of independence, while at 9pm fans of good music will be able to enjoy a concert by Orleki. Towards the evening Taste Radol'ca street food will also be available.

 

 

THURSDAY EVENINGS AT LINHART SQUARE

A series of concerts featuring a variety of music will take place every Thursday evening in July in the old town centre of Radovljica. The first concert will feature Slovenian hit songs performed by young musicians from the surroundings of Radovljica, followed on 14th July by the Argentian-Italian group SuRrealistas. The third Thursday in July Čedahuci will perform followed by Masharik on the last Thursday in the month. Taste Radol'ca street food will be available at all the Thursday evening concerts and, prior to that, visitors will have a chance to purchase arts and crafts from stalls of the ARTish festival.

 

 

OPEN-AIR CINEMA

Open-air cinema is a new feature on the Radol'ca event calendar this year. Featuring a new, larger screen and a modern projector, the open-air cinema will take place in various locations. In the past the open-air cinema took place in front of Linhart Hall, this year, however, films will be screened in various locations and the new projector enables the outdoor screening of the latest films. The first screening will be on 1st July in Radovljica park, to be followed by screenings at the football ground in Kropa, the Lesce sports airfield, the Sobec camp, in the garden of Katzenstein Mansion in Begunje na Gorenjskem and to end, the final screening will be back in Radovljica park. Viewing of all films is free of charge.

 

CULTURE: OPERA, THEATRE

The Kropa Theatre Festival began on 13th June. The festival programme features four theatre shows and one concert and entrance to all events is free of charge. Culture vultures will come into their own at the start of August. On 1st August a concert performance of the opera Carmen will take place in Radovljica park as part of the celebrations to mark the annual municipality holiday. The event will be the debut performance by pupils of the summer singing school of the acclaimed maestro conductor George Pehlivianian. A day later, at the same venue, the Slovenian actor, TV host, singer and songwriter Klemen Slakonja will perform a concert titled NI DA NI. Music is all around in Radovljica during August, since every year numerous concerts and performances are held as part of the Radovljica Early Music Festival. This year's concert marks the 40th anniversary.

 

 

TRADITIONAL EVENTS

Summer is also a time for numerous traditional events in the countryside and towns. Every year on 23rd June a midsummer's eve celebration is held at Kamen Castle in Begunje na Gorenjskem, and this year, to mark the 140th anniversary of the Begunje Firefighters' Association, a fete will be held on 24th June.
The first weekend in July will be particularly lively, since on the Saturday the traditional Iron Forging Festival will take place in Kropa featuring a range of events linked to the village's heritage of iron forging. The next day, the Urh Fair will take place in Begunje na Gorenjskem, featuring folklore groups, brass bands and other music, and a small local market. The traditional, annual Medieval Day event and market will take place in Radovljica on Sunday 31st July, and to round off the month, the Avsenik Festival will take place on 26th and 27th August.

 

 

SUMMER GUIDED TOURS

Special free guided tours of Radovljica, Kropa, Mošnje, Kamna Gorica and Kamen Castle will be held throughout July and August. In addition to guided tours, from Mondays to Saturdays throughout July and August, half day 'Hop On and Discover' bus tours, run in cooperation with the neighbouring destinations of Tržič, Jesenice and Bled, offer the opportunity to explore more of Radol'ca and the surroundings. The bus trips are free of charge for guests staying in partner accommodation for a minimum of three nights. Guests receive a free Julian Alps: Radovljica benefits card, which is issued by accommodation providers and can be used to take advantage of numerous discounts and other special offers for activities in Radol'ca and the neighbouring destinations.

Radovljica and its surroundings have long been regarded as the culinary centre of the Gorenjska region, a place that even gourmets like to visit. Radovljica and the surroundings offer countless opportunities for outdoor activities. You can choose from eight mountain bike routes in the countryside or on mountain pastures, which can be followed with the help of a GPX file or navigations via the Outdoor Active app. Those who prefer hiking can choose from the 12 theme trails or numerous hiking trails in the surroundings.

 

 

 

There are also various water-based adventures and special activities for children and families. Radovljica is also the ideal place for those who enjoy exploring local history, learning something new, and spending time in museums or soaking up cultural heritage. Radol'ca really does have a wealth of culture. Not just the beautiful old town centre, but also castle ruins, quaint village centres and numerous museums.
