As was the case last year, this year's festive decorations in Radovljica are green and are complemented by lights, which this time we have also put up in the park and in the square in front of the church. The main theme of this year's decoration are handmade wickerwork products from pine and willow.
The theme of last year's decorations in Radovljica was in memory of Radovljica's wheelwrighting tradition and, above all, the wheel, which is a part of the Radovljica coat of arms. This year we have returned to the tradition of wickerwork. Wickerwork from willow has been added to natural pine, which is the basis of the entire decoration of the town. Wickerwork has strong roots in Radovljica, as the state wickerwork school was established here in the Radovljica Manor in 1908. It operated there until 1935, while later – and right up to the present day – there are only a few masters of this craft remaining. One of the last was the Radovljica resident Marjan Golmajer. It was from him that Tanja Legat acquired her knowledge of wickerwork from birch and willow and it was Tanja that has made all the wicker spheres and little pine trees that adorn the town this December. The beautiful December appearance of the town this year was designed by Natalija Černe from the Radovljica Tourist Information Centre, the wickerwork master Tanja Legat, and the florist Sabina Šegula.
We have added festive lights to the decorative greenery, willow and traditional fir tree in Linhart Square. This year the castle park is also lit up with festive lights and there are a number of additional decorations in Linhart Square too.
We wish you a pleasant December!
