Radovljica has been making early music enthusiasts happy for 30 years now. Every year, this annual festival beguiles with its high-quality and diverse programme. Culture, music and history blend in the historical ambience of Radovljica’s Old Town.
Launched in 1982, the Radovljica Festival
is the oldest early music festival in Slovenia. At a series of established venues, it takes place in August
every year with ten concerts by different early music performers.
The festival is distinguished by the high standard of music on offer as the programmes and performers are selected carefully. Top-notch musicians from around the world perform programmes, which include musical reconstructions from the period before the advent of musical notation to twenty-first century music and contemporary works. Although the festival remains loyal to early music, the programme usually also involves contemporary musical interludes, theatre and dance.
The ambience in Radovljica is truly magnificent for similar festivals and undoubtedly adds to the value of the festival. The Old Town's architecture and the beautiful Radovljica Mansion, with its Baroque Hall and lobby, accord with historical instruments and early music.
In Radovljica, the concerts are held at two venues: Radovljica Mansion
and the Church of St Peter
. Visitors from Kranj and Ljubljana can take the free festival bus to Radovljica and visitors from Radovljica can take the free bus to Velesovo for concerts organised there.
