Drnča Manor

Drnča Manor is situated on the fringes of the vast fields and forests between the villages of Zgoša and Dvorska vas. It was one of the first Renaissance manors to be built in Slovenia. The manor's surroundings are complemented by a wonderful park which dates back to the first half of the twentieth century and includes two ponds and a pavilion.

The first records of Drnča Manor date back to the thirteenth century. The noble Lambergs renovated the manor in 1531 and gave it the appearance of a symmetrical Renaissance building. The four-storey manor has a rectangular ground plan and features two spired and splayed corbelled façades to each end of the main elevation. A heraldic plate, comprising the Lamberg family crest and the inscription 'Bog daj srečen konec!' (God give us a happy ending!), is affixed above the entrance gate.

During the nineteenth century, the manor had several local owners; it was also home to a cotton mill, among others. In the second half of the twentieth century, the Tone Čufar climatic spa was established in the manor, which operated here as part of Begunje Psychiatric Hospital until 2004.

The Renaissance Drnča Manor was renovated between 2005 and 2009, during which time a modern hotel was built next to it. Today, the manor houses luxury hotel rooms.

Although the manor serves as part of the Lambergh Château & Hotel complex, its exterior and the park adjacent to it are open to the public.
